We actually visited The Railway twice today and had a great time both times! We popped in this afternoon and had some bar snacks (all of which were delicious and very good value at for £ including halloumi fries, arancini, and chorizo sausages), then we went out in Blackheath Village for dinner and returned after to meet friends. The staff were lovely both times, and the pub itself is warm and welcoming. The pub quiz was great fun too! Special shout-out to Ruby too who was especially lovely! We'll be back soon.
My first time at The Railway and I was very pleased to have come. There is an extensive seating indoors bit also a very pleasant seating area at the back which is outdoors. I enjoyed their cloudy summer Ale 'Under the Sun', it was lovely with an even nicer fish and chips, good portion size, the batter was excellent and the mushy peas with a hint of mint was perfect!
Blackheath £. Stiegl GoldbräuThe Railway is located in the leafy enclave of Blackheath in Southeast London. The nearest station is Blackheath which is literally next door. This standalone pub was built in as The Railway Hotel. This once Ind Coope pub has had a couple of monikers over the years, one of which being The Fairway & Firkin. The pub was extensively refurbished in and is run by Mitchells & Butlers. This is a sizeable one bar pub that is in the main traditionally decorated. The servery is located on the left hand side and has a decent length. Around the entrance is bright and airy with a raised section on the left. The bar narrows halfway through and opens out to a dining area at the rear. Just off the dining area is a small walled beer garden, upstairs is a spacious covered roof terrace with a huge mural by the stairs. The beer selection had a bit of something for everyone and included craft, continental and cask options. I decided on a Stiegl Goldbräu, my pint was great, price point was expensive. The food menu is predominantly pub classics, Fish & Chips costs £.I arrived around pm on a cloudy Saturday in June. The pub was fairly busy with local punters of all ages. Although the pub was busy, it felt chilled due to the size of the pub. The service was on point, the chap who served me was pleasant and welcoming.Station pubs can be a bit hit and miss, @therailwayblackheath is definitely a hit and is well supported locally. Relaxed surroundings, decent beer, popular food and solid service, worth a look if you’re in the area.i️ Info correct on visiting ..
